For those of you lucky enough to score tickets, we are thrilled to have you on June 9th for Dine With Design, a truly once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to experience the multi-sensory wonder of The Food Film Festival under the stars at the Phillip Johnson Glass House site in New Canaan, CT.

There will be an amazing line-up of dishes including fresh oysters, grass-fed sliders, artisanal ice-cream, and more, plus screenings of the best of the best food films curated by Festival Director George Motz including The Perfect Oyster, What’s Virgin Mean, and Zergüt.

In addition to the great food and films, you will have access to the 47-acre campus of the Glass House – a spectacular series of monuments including buildings, works of art, and landscape elements.  The best part is that all proceeds benefit the Phillip Johnson Glass House, a National Trust Historic Site.

A quick tip from The Fair – it’s right across the street from the Brooklyn Flea and Smorgasburg – why not make a day of it?  Here are a few suggestions:

1. Pecha Kucha Night, Saturday, May 5th, 7:30pm – 9:30pm

And what is Pecha Kucha night you might be asking?  Well in this case, creatives from the food world present their ideas via 20 slides for 20 seconds each.  Expect an amazing intersection of art, literature, design, and food.  The best part is our very own Festival Director George Motz will be among the food visionaries presenting.  With George there, you know there will be some of the most scrumptious food photography you will ever see (plus some insight on our favorite American classic – the hamburger) Tickets available here.

2. The Garden Gather Dinner, Friday, May 4th, 7:30pm – 10:30pm.

There are just a few tickets left for this intimate dinner featuring locally grown and gathered ingredients from the Brooklyn Grange, forager Evan Strusinski, and more.  The six-course tasting dinner, prepared by San Francisco based Chef-Artist Leif Hedendal and Mark Andrew Gravel, will feature plenty of mushrooms and fresh seasonal fare accompanied by beers from Brooklyn Brewery.

You will also get to cozy up to some mycological celebs like Eugenia Bone co-president of the New York Mycological Society and author of Mycophilia: Revelations from the Weird World of Mushrooms and Gary Lincoff, author of The Audubon Society Field Guide to North American Mushrooms and the forthcoming Joy of Foraging.  (Gary was also featured in Ron Mann’s film Know Your Mushrooms at the 2009 NYC Food Film Festival – more on that here.)  All proceeds support GrowNYC’s New Farmer Development Project.  Tickets available here.

So…the official call for entries deadline for the NYC Food Film Festival has passed.  However, you still have a chance to enter your film if you get it to us by May 18th – the last minute deadline.

All the submission rules are the same, just the entry fees go up a little bit.  And if your film is selected, you could take home the coveted Slotted Spoon Award in one of the following categories:

• - Best Feature
• - Best Short
• - Best Super-Short
• - Best Food Porn
• - Audience Award
• - Made In NY Award
• - Food Filmmaker of the Year

Food Film Festival Director George Motz is heading to South Carolina this weekend for the Charleston Film Festival where his film The Mud and the Blood will screen on Saturday. It gets better: after the screening, folks have a chance to experience an authentic lowcountry oyster roast – just like in the film (check out the trailer here.)

If you find yourself in Charleston this weekend we highly recommend this irresistible combo of a great film and delicious food.  But, don’t just take our word for it – The Charleston City Paper and charlestonscene.com had some petty nice things to say too.  Actually…this may be reason enough for a road trip.
